RESIDENTS should have their say on a raft of active travel schemes, says Cheshire East leader Sam Corcoran.

In one of the Labour leader’s regular Twitter video updates, Cllr Corcoran said he ‘would like to see more’ of the measures come to the borough.

Cllr Corcoran said: “The government has provided funding for active travel schemes — the aim is to promote cycling and walking.

“A number of schemes have already been implemented in Cheshire East, and I would like to see more if further funding is provided.

“Cycling is good for your physical health, and obesity is a risk for Covid-19. It’s good for your mental health, and it’s fun.

“It’s also good for the environment, and if it reduces reliance on public transport and sharing cars, it’s good for Covid-19 reduction too.

“Please do respond to the consultation, suggest improvements to the existing schemes, or suggest new schemes.”

In total, eight sites in Cheshire East have seen measures introduced to encourage residents to make more journeys on foot or by bike, including Hawthorn Lane in Wilmslow.

However, plans for a ninth scheme in Knutsford were dropped after it was found not to be the right fit for the town.

Additionally, Wilmslow’s own Hawthorn Lane proposal was revised down from its original form — where it was set to be wholly closed to motor traffic — following “very negative” public feedback, according to one councillor.
