An almost perfect super Sunday was opened by a fixture which seemed in advance to look like an easy rollover win for Man City; including those who were lucky enough to make the trip to the Molineux that afternoon.
The match kicked off and was fairly dominated by City as excepted whilst Wolves snapped back a few chances in the opening 5 or so minutes.
Minute 7 and Wolves break the City line down the right wing with Nelson Semedo and he slices an exquisite cross into the box which is met by Jorgen Strand Larsen who fires home.
1:0 Wolves.
The next 15 minutes are relatively even with most of the ball – and chances – falling to City.
That was until the 33rd minute when Jeremy Doku picked up the ball and played it to Josko Gvardiol on the left-hand edge of the box.
Josko takes a glance up towards the goal and whips an incredible weak footed shot into the top right corner.
Jose Sa in the Wolves goal could get a fingertip to it but all that resulted in was an even more perfect top corner finish from Josko.
1-1.
The half remainder plays out with the same score and much of the very same football leaving both teams with aspects to improve on.
The second half plays out with City launching wave after wave of attacks, but the back of the net seemingly wasn’t to be found.
Wolves also attempted to nick a second goal but came no closer.
Woodwork was hit, saves were made but nothing was going in the Wolves net this half and it seemed like one of those days for City as extra time began.
Corner after corner in a row went City’s way but it all seemed alas.
After countless in a row Phil Foden whips one last ditch attempt into the 6 yard box and John Stone’s meets it with his head and thumps it over Jose Sa’s desperate save attempt.
City players and fans alike roar in ecstasy and astonishment as they watch their center back score a 95th minute winner.
2-1 City.
Just as the game seemed over referee Chris Kavanagh reaches for his earpiece as he is told by the VAR team the goal shall not count for an offside.
A Wolves lifeline seemed to have been thrown into the equation.
After minutes of confusion and complaining from all watching they can only watch and hope as Kavanagh goes to the VAR screen and makes his call.
Goal.
Man City at long last have their winner.
‘The scenes for Stones’ winning goal were absolutely incredible. The buzz was unreal. Johnny Stones coming in clutch for the 2nd time this season.’ Luke Stanley ( owner of social media channels @mcfclads + match spectator )
In conclusion, the match ended as a thrilling end to end game which will be talked about by fans of all teams alike for years to come with the potential to be the difference between positions come the end of the season.
