Knutsford Academy have recently opened a fantastic new library for the upper school students.

Knutsford Academy’s Headteacher Mrs. Key has strongly advocated for a library, believing it is a hugely valuable resource for the benefit of the school and students.

Now the school has just unveiled one!

Mrs. Key, head teacher at the school, commented: 'I am extremely pleased that we have been able to create this new and improved resource for our students.

The new library, with its excellent location and carefully curated reading and workspaces will undoubtedly enable students to both enjoy reading for pleasure and catch up on work during their free time.’

This opening took place earlier this half-term at the end of September

Ms. White, the librarian of this new establishment, has helped, along with support from the school, to convert a regular classroom into a space bursting with books and resources, for students to have a place where they can work peacefully during their breaks.

The library holds a large variety of books - both fiction and non-fiction - and a wide range of genres to supply books for all reading interests.

This provides the opportunity for students to read in school when they may not be able to at home, showing how valuable this facility is.

A comment from a Knutsford Academy student on this topic was “It’s got good books for when I normally wouldn’t have time to read.”

Computers can also be used by students, giving them easy access to any online homework they wish to complete.

As many pieces of homework which students are set need to be completed digitally, the computers in the library are an added convenience, allowing Knutsford Academy students the freedom to do homework during school hours.

A couple of students commented on this feature, saying “I can be productive in my break times, it helps me keep on top of work.”

They also described the setting as a “nice quiet place to do homework,” as the library is filled with spots for students to do all types of revision in tranquil surroundings.

Ms. White, when asked why she thinks a library is important for Knutsford Academy said, “The library is important for the school as it helps the students take control of their own learning - helps their breaks to be productive.”

And then when Ms. White was asked about what inspired her to help run the library said, “My own enjoyment of the library when I was at school, knowing there are students here that want to spend time in a calm, relaxed environment.”

The library has been gratefully welcomed by many across the school, even teachers say, "I am very glad Knutsford Academy has a library. A useful resource, a valuable place for study and a haven for all students.”
