ALDERLEY Edge golfer Charles Herbert had himself a star partner at the latest Manchester and District Golf Alliance tournament.
The serial Alliance winner was partnered by former Ladies European Tour player and current Sky Sports Golf pundit Sophie Walker, who is a member at Stockport Golf Club and was making her debut in the competition.
She helped Herbert post a respectable 39 points in the pro-am section at Northenden, but it was not enough to get into the prizes in a closely-fought leaderboard.
Eventually, it was Craig Corrigan who emerged victorious with 44 points ahead of Alistair Waddell (Chorlton) and Josh Crumplin (Disley), who both posted 43 in the individual pro section.
The pro-am section was decided by a card play-off, with Waddell and his Chorlton partner Daniel Tate winning from Crumplin and Chris Jackson (Tytherington).
Back at Alderley Edge, Fiona Anderson was the clear winner of a ladies 9-hole Stableford on 23 points, three clear of both Jean Walker and Yvonne Grundy (both 20).
Another 9-hole Stableford saw Paul Penney keep up his recent good form by winning Division One with 21 points. Adam Whittaker (23) won Division Two while Jeanette Freeman (18) won the ladies division.
Over at Styal Golf Club, Angela Griffiths won a closely-fought ladies Stableford on 32 points, one clear of Jane Gaskell while Viv Foster (29), Sue Grange and Fiona Pinder (both 28) close behind.
Pinder was victorious in a ladies 9-hole Stableford, taking top spot from Sandra Taylor via a card play-off after both finished on 21. Griffiths, Grange and Mel Hill were all just a point further back.
Styal’s Winter League saw Division One topped by Gareth Moorhouse (42) from Simon Geddis (40) while David Blackburn (44) led in Division Two ahead of Ben Walker (43).
To round off the latest action from Styal, Ken Larby (39) was victorious in a Seniors Stableford from Robert Carter (37) and Cliff Buckle (36).
