KNUTSFORD race ace Michael Igoe and co-driver Will Atkins went into round two of the Circuit Rally Championship at Cadwell full of confidence.

Although they finished second in the final stage times at the first round at Oulton Park earlier this month, the WPI Motorsports pair were handed the race win as a result of a post-event 10-second penalty being given to the overall winner.

From the off in Lincolnshire the Citroën C3 Rally 2 looked rapid, but due to on-track incidents the first stage times were cancelled for everyone.

With the action back underway, the No1 Citroën was on the money, taking the second stage win by a mere one second from the flying Skoda Fabia R5 of John Griffiths and co-driver Emma Morrison.

Stage three was a very different story as the No2 Skoda was even quicker, taking eight seconds out of Igoe and Atkins in what was proving to be some contest.

Like a flash, stage four arrived as the circuit looked to make up time for the many track delays, and Igoe certainly responded.

He was five seconds quicker than the Skoda of Griffiths and Morrison.

But stage five was where it all went wrong for the No1 Citroën.

As Igoe was pushing hard, he hit an armco barrier and squashed the exhaust.

The car could not continue and that was that.

It was a disappointing end to what was building up to be a great fight.

With the Skoda of Griffiths and Morrison not finishing at Oulton, there was nothing in it in the championship points table.

The team will certainly have the car fixed and ready for the next round at Donington on Sunday, December 1.
