KNUTSFORD FC will head to Capenhurst Villa in the second round of the Cheshire Amateur Cup on Saturday buoyed by going top of the league thanks to their weekend win.

Reds defeated Cheshire Football League Division One bottom side Congleton Reserves 4-1 away from home, putting them a point clear of town rivals Egerton at the summit although Yellows do have a game in hand.

Patrick Draper, Matt Mountney, Charlie Rodick and Kieran Mawdsley found the net for Knutsford, who led 3-0 after a dominant first half.

Congleton showed some fight in the second period and Joel Wilbraham gave a penalty away which was converted three minutes into the new half.

It took Reds until the 86th minute to add to their score when Mawdsley bundled the ball home while the Congleton keeper was distracted by the presence of Brandon Blades and Wilbraham.

Knutsford were in front from the fifth minute when Draper scrambled the ball home from a cross by Thi-Reece Lenihan.

Mountney went close twice before converting with a diving header from a Wilbraham cross after 13 minutes.

Knutsford’s third goal came after a Lenihan dribble on the left, with the ball falling to Rodick who fired home on 36 minutes.
