THE course record at a Knutsford Golf Club has been equalled.
After a couple of near misses, Josh Street matched the long-standing record at Heyrose Golf Club by carding a gross score of 67.
Playing in the Competitions and Handicaps Trophy at his childhood club, Street claimed the title playing off a handicap of +4.
“I am delighted to match the lowest score ever posted at my childhood course,” he said having completed his round.
“This brings back fond memories from 2011 when I recorded a round of 69 (four under) to take the record at that time.
“Over the past three years, I have had several close calls including multiple rounds of 68 and a 66 in a doubles match last year, despite starting with a double-bogey on the first hole.
“Heyrose has undergone significant changes over the past six months, transforming from a proprietary club into a members club with new investment and talent elevating the culture to new heights.
“I am delighted to have played a part in the success of this project.”
Meanwhile, Heyrose’s ladies team are celebrating having recently scooped a prestigious team trophy.
Lady captain Pam Sehmi led a seven-strong team featuring clubmates Jane Bothwell, Stephanie White, Sarah Gordon, Sabrina Duncan, Lara Richbell and Ashley Harris to victory in the Bell Cup, emerging victorious from a field of more than 70 teams that entered the competition run by the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association.
Having won through four rounds of qualifying, the Heyrose ladies qualified for finals day at Bury’s Pike Fold Golf Club and were pitted against Accrington Golf Club in the semi-final.
In a tight match, Heyrose emerged victorious via a 4-3 scoreline from a contest that was undecided until the final game reached the penultimate hole.
That advanced them to a final clash with Westhoughton, which proved nowhere near as dramatic as Heyrose ran out 5-2 winners to claim the trophy.
