HAVING reverted back to an old format, the Knutsford and District Amateur Snooker League is back for a new season.

As opposed to a single, handicapped division, the competition will once again be run this year across two ‘scratch’ leagues – Divisions One and Two.

And what better way to start the new campaign than with a meeting between the top two sides from last season as champions Shaw Heath A took on Morley Green.

In a predictably tight encounter, it was Shaw Heath, who pipped Morley Green to the title by the narrowest margin on record, who prevailed 4-3 as another battle between the two for the big prize looks likely.

However, the most impressive Division One victory went to Mobberley A, who thrashed Mere A 6-1 to get off to a flying start.

The other match in the top league was a tight Tatton derby, with the club’s A team edging out the B team 4-3.

All three Division Two matches finished 6-1, with new teams Shaw Heath B and Heald Green B making fine starts by thrashing Tatton C and Mobberley B respectively.

There was another ‘derby’ match between the A and B teams at Wilmslow Cons, and it was reigning Team Knockout Cup champions Wilmslow A who emerged as dominant 6-1 winners.
