A PROMISING local golfer will be part of an England team looking to end a 20-year drought next week.

Daniel Hayes, who is a former member of Styal Golf Club, will be heading to Austria alongside five teammates to represent his country at the European Boys’ Team Championships.

The 17-year-old, who now represents Bramhall Golf Club, is hoping to help England win the competition for the ninth time, with their last triumph coming all the way back in 2004.

As well as their eight victories, England have finished as runners-up on seven occasions, the last of which came recently in 2022.

Hayes is joined on the team by Ben Bolton, Seb Desoisa, Charlie Rusbridge, Kris Kim and Oscar Lent.

And he heads to the Diamond Golf & Country Club having enjoyed a strong season thus far, including having finished tied for second place at the English under 18s Amateur Championship last weekend.

Hayes also won the Lancashire Links Trophy back in May before finishing second in the Brabazon Trophy just a shot behind the winner, but he did pick up the award for being the leading under 20s player at the Belfry event.

He is also no stranger to representing England having done so at the Junior Golf World Cup in Japan in June and in an Octagonal Match in Spain in January.

In total, he has eight top-five finishes in tournaments in the UK, Spain and America over the past 18 months.
