KNUTSFORD Academy Sixth Form is again celebrating an incredible season for their football academy.
Ongoing success has been secured by another squad of talented players thanks to their victories in both the Under 1s8 Cheshire Cup Final and the John Tally International Showcase Tournament in Memphis, USA.
“We’re over the moon at yet another trophy-laden season,” said Tom Horner, football academy coordinator and PE teacher at the school.
“Our academy has grown in numbers and success since 2016 and this year’s squad has been exceptional.
“We beat Priestley College from Warrington 1-0 to win the Cheshire County Cup Final and Metro Alliance from Illinois 2-1 to bring home the John Tally Showcase Cup from Memphis.”
The first team’s squad is made up of students aged 16 to 19 and this season’s success also extends to individual players.
Horner explained: “We have a record four players who have successfully secured football scholarships with academies in America.
“All their documentation has been submitted and they fly out to start training with their new teammates this summer.”
Mitch Cameron and Matty Waters are both going to Central Maine Community College and Alex Hall and Ryan Hill are off to Wyoming Community College.
“On behalf of the coach Paul Butler and everyone at Knutsford Academy, we wish them the very best for their future. We’re so proud of these lads and everyone involved in the squad this year.”
The squad of players study at Knutsford Academy Sixth Form.
Thanks to a unique two-year programme, that combines football and academic studies, these students work towards football industry qualifications, receive UEFA B coaching from ex-professional Paul Butler, alongside their chosen A Level or BTEC courses, as well as competing in regional and international football competitions.
Knutsford Academy offers secondary and sixth-form education to more than 1400 students.
