TOFT are still waiting for their first win of the Cheshire County Cricket League Premier Division season after being edged out by Hyde on Saturday.

Despite having a relatively low total of 157-9 to defend, their bowlers almost pulled it off as they reduced their visitors to 142-8.

The wickets were shared around with Will Dunkerley claiming 3-40 while skipper Jimmy Lomas took two scalps, with a wicket each for Matthew Cornes, James Hodgson and Rohan Fernando.

However, Hyde were able to reach their victory target to secure a two-wicket win.

Michael Forwood’s knock of 28 was Toft’s highest score with the bat, with Dunkerley chipping in with an important 23 not out to get them to a defendable total.

A lack of first-innings runs also proved to be Alderley Edge’s undoing – having chosen to bat first, they were skittled for just 123 at Nantwich. Sam Perry’s 49 was the only score of note as only three Edge batsmen reached double figures.

There was a fightback of sorts with the ball as Edge claimed three quick wickets to leave the hosts on 79-4, but the total was knocked off with no further loss. Chris Sanders and George Valentine claimed two scalps each for the visitors.

Lindow made it two wins out of two in Division One as they chased down 222 to beat Cheadle by four wickets.

James Duffy’s 73 led the way, with Dan Newton (54) also reaching a half-century while Alex Newton’s 42 got them to the brink of victory after Duffy’s dismissal left them on 152-5.

Isaac Brooks starred with the ball by taking three wickets, with Will Espley claiming two while Matthews and Charlie Hodge both took one each.

In Division Two, Mobberley fell to a four-wicket defeat at Ashton-on-Mersey, for whom Mike Roberts hit a superb century to lead them to their victory target of 227.

Chris Turner’s unbeaten 54 helped Mobberley set that target, with Abdul Aqeel’s 41 providing key support.

Over Peover had Nilesh Suryavanshi (70) to thank for getting them to 177 all out in their Division Three trip to Heaton Mersey, but the hosts were able to reach their target with six wickets to spare.

In the Cheshire Cricket League, Elanchezian Murugan’s superb knock of 80 led Wilmslow’s successful pursuit of 212 for victory at Barnton, with Paneer Ganash also hitting 50 having earlier claimed four wickets with the ball as the visitors won by five wickets.

Knutsford were hammered at home by Wirral in Division Two as they were skittled for just 54 in pursuit of 242 for victory with Khawar Iqbal (21) and Muhammad Kamil (10) the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Adeel Bhatti and Muhammad Usman had earlier claimed three wickets each with the ball.

Holmes Chapel found themselves edged out by 14 runs at home against Malpas, whom they had dismissed for 185 in the first innings thanks in no small part to Paul Cudby’s five-wicket haul.

Openers Mark Rebbeck (66) and Kane Helyar (32) got their chase off to a solid start, but the hosts then collapsed to 171 all out.

In Division Three, Styal’s bowlers led them to a 23-run victory over Heaton Mersey Village – four wickets for Juan Pardo, three for Luke Coventry and two for Gautam Arora helped them dismiss their visitors for 110 in reply to their first-innings total of 141-7
