JASPER Hughes achieved success in the Cheshire Boys Under 16s and Under 14s Championships at Bramall Park Golf Club.

The Wilmslow Golf youngster was the winner of the younger competition with an impressive 73, a score which also resulted in securing second place in the under 16s event for the county’s up-and-coming stars.

That wasn’t the end of it. Hughes finished a close runner-up in the overall nett competition, with Harvey Taylor from Prestbury Golf Club winning with a 66 after a card play-off.

Players welcome at Knutsford Hockey Club

KNUTSFORD Hockey Club training is underway for the new season.

Current, past and new players are welcome to attend.

Sessions for under 13s take place on Tuesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Then the over 13s boys and senior men take to the pitch until 9pm.

Training for over 13s girls and senior women is on Wednesdays, also from 7.30pm for 90 minutes.

Victory for Helen Isherwood in Margaret Sangster Salver at Wilmslow Golf Club

WILMSLOW Golf Club lady captain Helen Isherwood came out on top in the Cheshire County Ladies Golf Association Margaret Sangster Salver competition staged on her home course.

It was the icing on the cake for Isherwood, who said she was both ‘delighted’ and ‘amazed’ to win the coveted trophy in a dramatic finish against some of the county’s top players.

It went down the wire of a card play-off on nett 76, with Isherwood prevailing from Tiffany Fielden of Hale Golf Club.

Just a shot further back were Olivia Brewster (Davenport), Caroline George (Bramhall), who won the best gross prize, Sharon Steadman (Antrobus) and Margaret Shepherd (Heswall).
