KNUTSFORD Rugby Club joined sports clubs from around the country in paying tribute to Her Majesty The Queen on Saturday.
Prior to their home game against Leek thirds, a minute’s silence to honour the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday was wonderfully observed after it was decided rugby union at all levels would proceed as planned through the national period of mourning.
When the action got underway, Knutsford’s large-scale problems with unavailability proved costly in a heavy defeat, with the visitors coming away with a 73-5 victory.
With 13 key players missing, several players were making their debuts in alien positions and the visitors were able to rack up the points.
However, Knutsford did perhaps score the best try of the game – having gone through the phases, solid hands and offloading led to number eight Kyle Blake touching down for his first score of the season.
It proved to be their only points and now, Knutsford face a difficult trip to Crewe and Nantwich on Saturday.
The club are inviting new players of all abilities to come and join the team – training sessions take place on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm at Booths Hall playing fields.
