A COMMUNITY group in Knutsford is calling on residents to help those in the town suffering financial hardship this winter.

Knutsford Lions is in the middle of planning its Christmas Day Lunch operation, which provides people who are struggling, or would otherwise be on their own, with a hot meal.

The club also stages a free senior citizens variety show in early February.

And to help fund these events, and enable the Lions to provide financial help for people in need and other good causes throughout the year, the club has issued an envelope appeal.

In recent weeks, envelopes have been distributed throughout the town seeking donations from those people willing and able to donate towards the Lions Christmas Appeal.

Lion member Peter Willgoose, who has been organising the Christmas Appeal for many years, said: "On behalf of Knutsford Lions, I wish to offer a big thank you to all those making a donation, and also the many Knutsford Hosts and Lions Friends who help deliver the envelopes and at the Street Collection.

"Merry Christmas everyone."

The Lions will not be calling on anyone to collect envelopes but those wishing to donate are asked to deliver their sealed envelopes containing their donations, and, if appropriate, completed Gift Aid Forms, to any Lion member.

Sealed envelopes can also be delivered to Heathfield’s Fruit and Veg stall in Knutsford Market, or to Knutsford Olde Sweet Shoppe, 119, King Street.

They can also be placed in a Lions collection bucket in Princess Street on Friday, December 6, or Saturday, December 7, between 10.30am and 3pm.
