A DRINK-DRIVER caught behind the wheel whilst twice the legal alcohol limit has been banned from the road.

Neil McKie, of Racefield Road, Knutsford, admitted having 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at Chester Magistrates’ Court on November 12.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The 42-year-old was caught over the limit whilst behind the wheel of an Audi A3 on Cheshire Oaks Way in Ellesmere Port on Wednesday, October 23, this year.

McKie was banned from driving for 20 months.

This ban could be reduced to 20 weeks if the defendant completes a drink-drive rehabilitation course by December 12, next year.

McKie was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £48 victim surcharge.

Magistrates took his guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.

The defendant asked for the full court penalty of £253 to be deducted from his benefit within 14 days.
