The property is now up for sale.
Posting on social media, owner Dan Hurby bid a fond farewell to all his customers.
He said: “After 12 very happy years, Dan’s DIY Ltd has decided to stop trading from the beginning of November.
“As many of you will know the DIY shop was originally called B Clark DIY and had been run by the same family for many years.
“We wish to thank all our customers for their support, gossip and laughs but feel now is the time to explore new options.”
Customers have wished him well and thanked him for his ‘great service’.
One person said: “Moor Lane won’t be the same, Dan. A great little business. You will be missed.”
Another customer added: “Sad to see you go, great service, very handy and so convenient.
“Good luck for whatever the future brings to you and yours.”
One woman said: “Loved coming to you for all our bits and bobs. Good luck in whatever is next.”
Another customer added: “Always been a great little shop. Never fails to have just what I need. Wishing you all the best for the future, Dan.”
The shop will go under the hammer on December 4 unless it is sold beforehand.
The property is being marketed by Meller Braggins, of Knutsford, with a guide price of £225,000.
The premises are hailed as having ‘huge potential for renovation or conversion’.
A property listing on Rightmove reads: “These well-known commercial premises are situated in a sought-after part of Wilmslow on the edge of open countryside yet with excellent access to the town centre and the local shops and other facilities on Chapel Lane.
“The building now requires complete renovation.
“However, forms an ideal subject to continue as a commercial/office unit or subject to planning permission be converted back to a semi detached house as it would have been when first constructed.
“The property has also been extended in the past with a two storey extension at the rear.”
The accommodation currently comprises two showroom areas on the ground floor with a rear store and WC.
The first floor has two large rooms together with two smaller rooms at the back.
The plot includes a detached garage and garden at the back with parking at the front.
