The assault happened at around 3.45pm on Thursday, October 31.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “A 58-year-old man reported he had been assaulted by two teenagers.

“He suffered serious injuries.

“A 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

“They have been released on bail.”

A fundraising appeal has been launched for the driver as he is self-employed and unable to work.

His family and employer, a local chauffeur firm in Mobberley, have been overwhelmed by the response.

Simon Fletcher, who set up the gofundme appeal, said: “As he is self employed and many people have asked if there is anything they can do, I’ve set up this page and am already, like the family and business, overwhelmed with love and support from our great community.”

The driver had taken a minibus into the car wash before his shift started.

Simon said: “He was circled by two young men.

“They violently assaulted him and unfortunately have left him with upper and lower eye socket fractures, a fracture to his cheek bone and jaw.

“His eye is swollen and he cannot see.

“The result is he will be out of work and recovering for a few weeks.”
