AN 85-year-old ‘loving' husband and grandad was struck by two cars while crossing the road, a court heard.
The inquest into the death of Douglas Burke, of High Legh, was formally opened on Wednesday morning.
Cheshire Coroners’ Court heard that the 85-year-old had been crossing the road on November 20, 2023, when he was ‘struck’ by two vehicles on the A50 in High Legh, near to the junction of Swineyard Lane.
Police were called at around 8.17pm, and sadly pronounced him dead at the scene.
At the time, Mr Burke’s family released a statement in which they expressed their heartbreak.
“Douglas was enjoying his retirement, travelling around the UK and Europe when not playing gold for meeting with friends,” the statement read.
“He was a loving husband, father brother, and grandad, and we are all heartbroken by his loss.
“He will be missed by many people around the world.”
Cheshire Police confirmed their investigation has now concluded and no charges have been brought against the motorists.
Senior coroner for Cheshire, Jacqueline Devonish, adjourned for the full hearing to take place on December 3.
