A SCHOOL has won £1,000 to spend at a discount retailer.

The Wilmslow Academy was awarded the voucher after being nominated in Wacky Warehouse’s school competition, in partnership with B&M.

The news comes after parents and guardians across the UK were asked to donate unused and pre-loved school uniform at their local Wacky Warehouse.

This is to help take the pressure off caregivers as over two thirds of them say it’s the costliest expense of going back to school, with an average spend of £161 per child on uniform.

All the donations that were given in as part of the scheme were then donated to local partner charities or nominated schools across the country.

The school has chosen to spend the money on gardening equipment to help their gardening club, as they are looking to increase the number of insects they attract and make the school more colourful.

By spending the voucher on new troughs to enhance the outside environment, they will be able to add more plants throughout the spring.

The school has also used the voucher to get some bedding and food for their guinea pigs.

Julie White, head of school at The Wilmslow Academy, said: “We have chosen to spend our winnings on items that benefit the whole school and the wider community.

“By spending the money on the guinea pigs, we are teaching our children to take greater responsibility for caring for our pets.”
