The defendant was stopped whilst driving an eight-seater passenger Yamaha vehicle on Haig Road in Knutsford on June 23, this year.

The grooves in the tread pattern of the tyre on the rear offside tyre were less than 1.6 millimetres deep throughout a continuous band situated in the centre three-quarters of the breadth of tread and round the entire outer circumference of the tyre.

The rear nearside tyre of the vehicle was also found to be in the same worn condition, below the legal minimum tread depth.

The defendant was also charged with using a vehicle on a road without a valid MOT test certificate.

Magistrates found the case proved after listening to the evidence.

Chaudhry was fined £220 and ordered to pay £88 victim surcharge and £90 costs.

His driving licence was endorsed with three points.

No separate financial penalty was issued for having insufficient tread on the rear nearside tyre or driving without a valid test certificate.

The defendant was given until November 7 to pay the £398 court penalty.
