POLICE have issued a driver with a traffic offence report (TOR) after they were seen transporting an ‘unsafe load’.

A wagon was spotted by police officers carrying loose logs and branches which were not secured by straps.

Cheshire Police and Rural Crime Team fear the cut trees and shrubbery could have fallen ‘causing a risk to other road users’.

Police are warning drivers to make sure vehicles transporting loads are safely prepared for journeys.

PC John Teasdale, of Cheshire Police and Rural Crime Team, said: “Whilst out on patrol, this vehicle was observed being driven with an insecure load and the load obscuring the view of the mirrors.

“This poses a danger to other road users as the driver has limited view to manoeuvre the vehicle safely.

“In addition, the loose logs/branches could fall causing a risk to other road users.

“No matter how short the journey is, it is vital that you secure the load with covers and straps.

“It’s simply not worth taking the risk, having something fall and hitting other road users leading to a collision or injuries.”

TORs are issued when an officer believes a driver may have committed a specified road traffic-related offence on a particular occasion and considers further action appropriate.

The offence can be dealt with by way of advice, although other options include a diversionary course, fixed penalty, or prosecution depending on the seriousness and recommended guidelines.
