RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on proposed new Cheshire East ward boundaries for Knutsford.

The Local Government Boundary Commission is seeking feedback from residents and local groups on the proposals.

A consultation will run for 10 weeks until December 9.

The independent commission is reviewing Cheshire East Council to ensure councillors represent a similar number of voters and that ward arrangements support effective governance.

The commission suggests 82 councillors for 50 wards, with most wards set to change.

Proposals include splitting the current three-member Knutsford ward into a single-member ward and a two-member ward, based on provided evidence.

The town's current councillors are Cllr Stewart Gardiner, Cllr Tony Dean and Cllr Peter Coan.

Macclesfield town is also set to be re-warded to better reflect community identities and interests.

Professor Colin Mellors, chairman of the commission, said: "We want people in Cheshire East to help us.

"We have drawn up proposals for new wards in Cheshire East. We want to make sure these new electoral arrangements reflect communities. We also want them to be easy to understand and convenient for local people.

"Residents and local organisations can help us do that. We would like them to let us know whether they agree with our proposals before we take final decisions.

"It’s easy to get involved. Go to our website. Or you can e-mail or write to us. Just tell us what you think and give us some details why you think that. It’s really simple, so do get involved."

Details of the proposals can be viewed and commented on via the commission's website. Feedback can also be sent by email to reviews@lgbce.org.uk or by post to the commission's London office.
