A DRIVER clocked speeding at 105mph on the M62 has avoided a ban.

Neil Brabazon, of Cow Lane, Wilmslow, pleaded guilty at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on September 20 to exceeding the speed limit.

The 47-year-old was caught on manned equipment driving an Audi on the M62 between the county boundary and junction 35 in East Yorkshire, exceeding 70mph on September 23, last year.

The speed recorded was 105mph, the court was told.

Brabazon was convicted at an earlier hearing at Humber Magistrates’ Court on April 22, this year.

The case was adjourned until September 20, at the request of the defence, to consider a disqualification from driving.

Driving at more than 100mph on public roads in the UK is classified as a band C speeding offence, the highest category, and can lead to a ban.

However, after listening to the evidence, magistrates decided not impose a ban.

Brabazon was fined £553 and ordered to pay £221 victim surcharge and £120 costs.

His driving licence was endorsed with six points.

Magistrates took his guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.

The defendant was given until October 10 to pay the £894 court penalty.
