A HELICOPTER and large number of police cars chased a dangerous driver through Cheshire today, Sunday.
A Mazda SUV sped recklessly along Northwich By-pass from Mere after being followed by police on the M6 northbound and almost crashed into one car.
The vehicle had been reported as stolen.
A shocked passenger described the terrifying moment her car was almost hit by the getaway vehicle.
The woman told The Guardian: “The car nearly crashed us into a ditch.
“He was millimetres behind me before the police car next to me sped off so the driver could swerve past me.
“It was a Mazda SUV driving down the road, battered to hell missing a full wheel!”
“I was the first one stopped behind the incident.
Cheshire police have confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen in Staffordshire.
The driver was eventually stopped on the A556 and arrested.
A spokesman for Cheshire police said: “At around 11.30am on Sunday, September 29, police were made aware of a vehicle travelling on the M6 northbound near to junction 16 which was suspected to have been stolen.
“Officers assisted Staffordshire Police in attempting to stop the vehicle.
“The vehicle failed to stop for officers and made off up the M6.
“Police subsequently stopped the vehicle on the A556 and the driver was arrested.”
