ENTHUSIASTIC bakers raised a whopping £2,300 in one day from an extraordinary cake sale.

Knutsford Bake Club was celebrating a decade of hosting Macmillan coffee mornings.

In the past 10 years, this team of volunteers has donated a phenomenal £13,450 to the charity.

Lucy Farnon, founder of the club, said: “We couldn’t have asked for better weather to support this event.

“So many people came to support Macmillan, some have lost loved ones and others are fighting themselves.

“Thanks to all who gave to support cancer patients.”

The event attracted a big crowd to the Lost and Found on Princess Street.

The turnout included Knutsford mayor Cllr Colin Banks and mayoress Christine Banks, as well as Tatton MP Esther McVey and local business owners.

The charity has commended the club for its unstinting fundraising efforts.

Sarah Peet, relationship fundraising manager of Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “What a fantastic achievement and congratulations to all the bakers at Knutsford Bake Club on your 10-year anniversary.

“It’s because of our amazing supporters like you that we are able to continue to be there for people living with cancer and their families when they need us most locally across Cheshire.

The bakers wish to say a special thank you to the Lost and Found for hosting and making the tea and coffee.

Lisa Barcroft Lee deserves a special mention for delivering boxes of cakes to local shops and businesses.

Plans are already underway for next year’s event which will be held on Friday, September 5.
