A GIANT puppet mesmerised children at the first ever Wilmslow Street Fest.

Little ones were lifted into the air to see colossal Sophie close-up as she meandered through the streets.

Hundreds packed into Bank Square for the free community event which brought town centre businesses, traders and residents together for a summer celebration.

“It certainly was a big sprinkle of va-va-voom as promised.”

Joanna Davies, Wilmslow BID Chair and owner of Black White Denim, said: “Yet again Wilmslow has delivered a way better event for our brilliant community.

“Wilmslow Street Fest was more like a large-scale music festival than a market town street party.

“Bring on the next one.”

Freshly prepared street food was served by Just Gyros, The Pizza Maker, Hungry Critters, Sassy Sandwich Co, The Thai Van, Bhaji Boss, The Samosa Guys, The Cheeky Swine Hog Roast, Pasta Ferrazza, Wings & Things, Potyo, Waffles & Coffee Co, Vintro and Gingers Comfort Emporium.

Global Grooves from Manchester provided the giant puppet Sophia.

The positive feedback has paved the way for future events.

Plans are already in place to make it a regular feature in the town's social calendar.

Details of the next Wilmslow Food Fest will be announced soon.
