BUBBLY Barbara Oliver was always first on the dance floor.

Until a few years ago, this vivacious lady loved her weekly keep fit classes.

When she was in her 80s, she flew to Australia and America and always enjoyed visiting new places.

This outgoing great gran celebrated her 100th birthday this week, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Barbara, from Wilmslow, now lives at Bucklow Manor Care Home in Knutsford, where she was overwhelmed to receive 100 birthday cards!

Daughter Pam, 68, said: “She is always game for a laugh, full of fun and wants to join in with everything.

“She was always first on the dance floor, a bit of a party animal.”

Barbara’s maiden name was Hayes and she was born in Ancoats, Manchester.

After marrying her late husband John in 1947, she had two daughters, Susan, now 73, and Pam.

The couple ran a newsagents together for many years, whilst John also worked as a fridge engineer.

Pam said: “She has always had a positive outlook and loved to keep as busy as she could.

“She loved company and helping out with children in the family, doing everybody’s ironing.

“She used to go Ballroom dancing every night. She always loved a good laugh and in the early days, a wine or sherry.

“She went on lots of trips organised by her local Catholic church.

“She was a good baker, lemon cake was her favourite.”

Barbara flew to Europe, America and Australia with her younger sister Ann, 86, after her husband died in 2009.

Daughter Susan lived in Australia for a while.

Barbara’s granddaughter Jayne, 53, and great granddaughter Anna, 21, flew from their home in Florida for her milestone birthday.

Pam said: “Mum was delighted they travelled all that way for her special day.

“She has always been young at heart and very determined.

“She loved walking and eating curry.

“The care home did a fantastic job celebrating her birthday.

“A lovely singer came in and mum did a little dance in her wheelchair.

“A card from King Charles and Camilla arrived on the day.

“Mum was really excited to receive that one.”

Barbara has five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Anna, 21 is the oldest and 12-month-old Daniel the youngest.
