A SMOKER has been hit with a £400 court penalty for dropping a cigarette butt on the street.
Juyan Wang, of Hawthorn Street, Wilmslow, was charged with throwing down, dropping or otherwise depositing litter at Tameside Magistrates Court on July 24.
The 38-year-old was accused of depositing a cigarette butt on Shudehill in Manchester on October 16, last year.
The charge was brought by Manchester City Council Litter contrary to the Environmental Protection Act.
After listening to the evidence, magistrates found the case proved.
Wang was fined £220 and ordered to pay £125 costs and £88 victim surcharge.
The defendant was given until September 4 to pay the £433 court penalty.
