YOUNG people in Knutsford are calling for more leisure activities and sports facilities.

Young carers are also appealing for more mental health support.

A survey of young people aged five to 19 in Knutsford has revealed a detailed rundown of what they would like to see provided in the town.

Great Places organised the survey in collaboration with Knutsford Town Council and Cheshire East Youth Support Service.

The local housing association has welcomed the response.

Key findings reveal that a large number of young people would like to see the development of more accessible youth activities including, cooking, arts and crafts and performing arts activities, team sports and gym facilities.

Young carers said they need more support, along with better mental health provision for young people.

All their comments and views will now be instrumental in shaping and co-designing future youth services in the area.

Rebecca Banks, community project manager for the Longridge area in Knutsford, said: “The feedback collected from this survey has provided some invaluable insights.

“Young people in the town have spoken clearly.

“They want more accessible youth activities, better support for young carers and improved access to mental health services.

“These findings have already helped inform a programme of activities Great Places is looking to run during the school holidays.

“They will also play a pivotal role in helping us and our partners in shaping and co-designing future youth services in the community.”

Adam Keppel-Green, town clerk at Knutsford Town Council, said: “Understanding what our younger residents would like to see in Knutsford is really important to us.

“We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to share their views and will now work with partners to identify what we can bring forward.”

Kelly Prince, from Cheshire East Youth Support Service, said: "It has been a great opportunity to work with partners to capture the voice of young people.

“We will continue to support the community to increase sustainable provision in the area where possible."
