“Perfume is what we know best and what we have a huge passion for” – Melanie Seddon and Peter Murray certainly know their fragrances.
The couple have been guiding customers and clients on a scented journey for the past 13 years at Pulse of Perfumery and the business is the latest winner in our Best of 2024 awards!

Twelve top independent businesses and shops in Mid Cheshire made the shortlist for our latest Best of 2024 awards and Pulse of Perfumery took this year’s coveted crown.
Peter Murray and Melanie Seddon opened the business in 2011 on Princess Street before relocating to King Street in 2022.
Melanie grew up in St Helens and Peter is from Tottenham in north London but they have lived in the centre of Knutsford for the past eight years.
Peter said: “We are retailers of premium fragrances - some very well-known brands alongside some little known artisan niche fragrance houses from around the world.
“We have some fabulous sought after brands that are exclusive to us in the UK in addition to some firm favourites.
“We have a unique and very consultative approach and offer a very different fragrance shopping experience to any other retailer.
“We are inclusive and not exclusive and we share our passion with our clients daily and we help them discover brands they probably would never explore without our guidance and expertise.
“We are a friendly and approachable team, all of whom know every scent in every bottle on our shelves and can therefore help clients navigate what can often be a fairly daunting process if left alone in finding a new favourite scent.
“We also offer private fragrance consultations and these are extremely popular as gifts.
“They can be booked as one to one sessions or three people can come along to enjoy sharing in the experience.”
Mel and Peter have worked for several luxury fragrance brands over the years and felt that there was a gap in the market for what they currently offer at Pulse of Perfumery.
Peter was a sales director for luxury Italian brand La Perla, managing distribution along with a number of niche perfume brands which he discovered and introduced to the UK market.
He met Mel at La Perla and together they established the fragrance brand in the UK with Mel going on to manage 25 fragrance brands, working as national sales manager for the then biggest fragrance distributor in the UK.
Mel said: “Perfume is what we know best and have a huge passion for.
“Our combined breadth of experience, each with over 40 years in the industry, is unique.
“We’ve had the good fortune to work with everyone from Harrods to the smallest chemist if they carried a brand we were responsible for as well as the end consumer.
“We have a unique perspective and huge passion for perfumery.
“We respect and understand its artistry and the work of the perfumer.
“We also love people and enjoy witnessing daily the joy that a beautiful perfume can bring and the memories it evokes for clients.”

When Mel and Peter found out that they’d made the shortlist for this year’s Best Independent Shop or Business they were elated but felt humbled knowing that their clients had taken time to nominate the business for the award.
Mel said: “Without our clients we would be nothing and it’s reassurance that we are getting things right for everybody.
“When we heard we’d won, we felt on top of the world.
“To win this accolade for the whole of Mid Cheshire is incredible and we’d like to thank our amazing team for constantly delivering excellence as well as reinforcing our service values - and of course putting up with us on a daily basis!”
Peter said: “This week has been very rewarding as we also received notification from Tripadvisor that we are a 2024 Travellers Choice Award winner.
“This is an award for businesses that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10 per cent of properties worldwide on Tripadvisor.
“What a week!”
He added: “Without our clients we wouldn’t be the business we are today so a huge thank you to everyone that has shopped with us - a great many have supported us since day one
“Thank you for your unwavering support and for continuing to spread the word by introducing friends and family to us.
