A CRASH involving a lorry and two cars closed one lane on the M56 in Cheshire.
The collision happened at 6.12am this morning, Tuesday.
Congestion built up on the eastbound carriageway from junction 7 for Bowdon and junction 6 for Wilmslow.
Highways England has confirmed that no-one was hurt.
The HGV came to rest in lane one and the two cars were in lane four.
A spokesman for Highways England said: “Staff at our North West regional operations centre near Warrington were able to keep traffic moving by setting signs and funnelling drivers into lanes two and three, albeit at 30mph past the scene for safety reasons.
“National Highways traffic officers from the outstation at Knutsford attended to manage traffic past the incident and arrange removal of all three vehicles.”
The lorry was driven away, reopening lane one and the cars were recovered.
All lanes reopened shortly before 7.30am.
A Highways England spokesman added: “We don’t speculate on the cause of incidents but would like to remind drivers that it’s very wet along the motorway network today with poor visibility and surface water in places following torrential rain.
“They should exercise extra care when out and about – light up, slow down and leave extra room for braking.”
