Tatton Brewery reopens under new ownership months after closing

Tatton Brewery is celebrating a new lease of life after teaming up with award winning Wantsum Brewery in Kent.

The Knutsford company on Longridge Trading Estate announced ‘with a heavy heart’ that it was closing in February after 14 years.

The firm said it was ‘truly saddened’ to shut down due to unprecedented increases in the cost of living, fuel prices and raw materials.

Owner and founder Gregg Sawyer decided to step away from the business due to family responsibilities, and the team said it was 'no longer viable' for them to carry on.

However, this week, the brewery said it was delighted to announce it is back in business, with many of the old team.

In a statement, the brewery said: “Continuing with the Tatton name and reputation for producing consistent, high quality cask beer, we are also pleased to announce our partnership with the award winning and well established Wantsum Brewery, based in Kent.

“Like us, the team at Wantsum are passionate about brewing quality cask beers using the best ingredients to delight their discerning customers.

“This partnership will allow us to leverage a broad skill set, produce a larger, innovative new range of great beers which can be enjoyed by a broader audience.”

Head brewer, Gazza Prescott who had been brewing the Tatton Beers for the last 12 months, said: ‘This is an exciting time for the brewery and the team.

“I’m looking forward to getting things back up and running again, plus we've some exciting ideas for future brews.”

Nicky Arnell is also on board and will be involved in supporting customers and operations.

The brewery hopes to have beer ready to drink in the coming weeks.

Favourites including Tatton Best, Tatton Blonde, Lazy Haze, Tatton Black, Tatton Gold and the award-winning Pennine Mild are all set to make a comeback.

Fans feared they had tasted the last of Tatton Beers when several casks were served at the recent Knutsford Beer Festival.
