A SUSPECTED drink-driver crashed into a bush.
Police in Mobberley have arrested a 69-year-old woman on suspicion of drink-driving after she reportedly hit a parked car before ploughing her vehicle into a hedge in Townfield Road.
Thankfully no one was hurt but residents in the street believe things could have ended up very differently.
“It all happened so fast,” said one neighbour. “I was putting my children to bed then there was this massive sound. My wife described it as steel bars falling off a lorry.
“We have three young children. The day before they had been playing exactly where the car ended up hitting, at pretty much the same time.”
Another resident added: “It was like a scene from Emmerdale, everybody came out to see what had happened.
“Everyone was just in a bit of shock. Not because of what did happen but because of what could have happened. It’s really scary, it could have been so bad.
“It is unbelievably lucky that no kids were outside playing at that time because they would have been killed.
“I walk past the hedge hit three or four times a day. There is no way anyone could have got out of the way of that. That was a very near tragedy.”
They added that with many people enjoying the sunshine and European Championships over a drink, hopefully, this incident can serve as a reminder not to drink and drive.
They said: “It’s beautiful weather at the moment and people are going to be getting together and getting drunk.
“This incident hits home the dangers of drink-driving as we don’t get reminded about it enough.
“People just need to be responsible.”
Police were called to the scene shortly after 7pm on Thursday (June 20) and arrested a 69-year-old woman on suspicion of drink-driving.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 7.09pm on Thursday police were called to a collision on Townfield Road, Mobberley.
“Officers attended and found a red Nissan Juke had collided with a parked car, a red Peugeot 206, and a hedge.
“There were no reports of any injuries, but the driver of the Nissan, a 69-year-old local woman, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
“The woman remains in custody at this time.”
