FOOTBALL fans can claim a free pint.

Pub chain Greene King is offering free drinks ahead of the first game of the European Championship.

The tournament gets underway on Friday (June 14) with Scotland vs Germany.

All you have to do to get a free drink is order at one of the 800 participating venues between 6pm and 7pm and say a secret code phrase – ‘For Pub and Country’.

There are plenty of Greene King pubs to choose from in Cheshire, including the Unicorn Inn in Wilmslow, the Waggon and Horses in Handforth, and the Thorn Inn in Appleton.

However, The Lodge in Northwich is unfortunately not one of the participating venues.

Michelle West, head of sport at Greene King, added: “This summer at Greene King we’re hosting the nation, something we’ve been doing for over 200 years.

“Whether England and Scotland win, lose, or draw come the end of the tournament, we know that there’s nothing we all love more than throwing our support behind our home teams and what better way to kickstart the celebrations than by enjoying a free drink?

“So, head into participating Greene King pubs on Friday 14th and say the secret code phrase – ‘For Pub and Country’ – at the bar to claim your free drink.”
