A HOLMES Chapel man has been jailed after drunkenly attacking two innocent bystanders in the street.
Thomas Beswick, of London Road, appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on May 22 facing two assault charges.
The court heard the 22-year-old had carried out a 'serious' and 'unprovoked' attack on a man and woman in Station Road, Sandbach, late at night on October 2 last year.
At a hearing on April 23, Beswick had pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm with regards to the man he attacked, and admitted to assault by beating of the woman.
Returning to the dock to learn his fate, Beswick was jailed for a total of 26 weeks because the offences were 'so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified'.
Other reasons for custody included the defendant's 'flagrant disregard for people and their property' and the fact it was an 'unprovoked attack on innocent bystanders late at night, whilst in drink'.
Magistrates also ordered Beswick to pay £250 in compensation to the man he attacked and £100 in compensation to the woman.
