A SECOND man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenage girl on a night out in Knutsford.

Police launched an investigation after they were informed a 17-year-old girl had been seriously sexually assaulted in the town between 11pm on Saturday, May 11, and 5am the following Sunday.

The girl was in and around Knutsford town centre and the Mobberley Road area when the incident occurred and is now is being supported by officers.

As part of police inquiries, a 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, however he has been eliminated from the investigation and released with no further action taken against him.

Inquiries have continued and a 19-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of rape. He has since been released on conditional bail.   

DI Rob Lees appealed for anyone with any further information to contact police via the website or 101, quoting IML-1822074.

He said: "I’d urge anyone who was in the areas of the town centre and Mobberley Road between the hours of 11pm on Saturday, May 11, and 5am on Sunday, May 12, to contact us with any information that may help us with our investigation.

“We understand this may cause some concern in the community and have increased in patrols in the area to provide reassurance.”
