KNUTSFORD residents are being invited to support the town's new mayor as he kicks off his term with his first fundraising event.

Cllr Colin Banks was honoured to be elected to replace outgoing mayor Cllr Peter Coan earlier this month.

During each term, mayors of the town host a variety of fundraising events to support causes close to their hearts.

And on June 8, Cllr Banks will has arranged a 'Walk with the Mayor' event to support his chosen charities - Just Drop In and The Welcome.

He said: “Please join me in our glorious Cheshire countryside for my first fundraiser of the Civic Year.

"It's for the whole community to join in, and late lunch is available at the end.

"Come rain or shine it will be a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon."

The 'Walk with the Mayor' starts from the Legh Arms in Brook Street at 12.30pm and will take a circular route out through the countryside to Ollerton before heading back to the pub.

Taking approximately 3.5 hours, the walk is followed by light refreshments at the Legh Arms, which is sponsoring the event.

The walk is suitable for walkers of all abilities and follows a predominantly flat route. Walkers should have suitable footwear and bring a bottle of water – furry friends and children are welcome.

Tickets for the walk are just £5 (£2.50 for children under 16) and all funds raised will go to the mayor’s chosen charities.

There will also be a raffle at the Legh Arms once the walk has finished. Local businesses who may wish to donate a prize for the raffle are also urged to get in touch.
