A GOLFER has thanked medics for saving her husband’s life.
Jenny Loughlin, lady captain of The Mere Golf Resort, has donated £20,000 to East Cheshire NHS charity.
Her husband, Wayne, has now been given the ‘all clear’ after surgery treatment at Macclesfield Hospital.

Jenny said: “In March 2019, we got the awful news my husband Wayne had bowel cancer which came as a complete shock as the only symptom he had was slight constipation.
“We were absolutely devastated.
“After a consultation with Dr Chris Smart, his surgeon at Macclesfield Hospital, it was decided an operation was necessary.
“Dr Smart told us if he hadn’t operated on him on that day, he wouldn’t have been with us 24 hours later.
“The operation was a success and after five years, Wayne has been given the all clear and released from the care of the colorectal unit.
“We feel nothing but gratitude.”
Jenny wanted to give something back by supporting the hospital’s charity through a range of fundraising activities.
Throughout last year, with the support of Mere Golf team and its members, the couple raised £11,000.
Fundraising included raffles, a charity golf day, a sponsored hole in one, and a lunch hosted by close friends at Statham Lodge, from which there was a generous donation of £5,000.
Wayne, who recently retired, contributed a further £9,000 to make the total raised £20,000.
The couple, both members of the golf club, met with Ged Murphy, chief executive at East Cheshire NHS Trust, to present the donation and discuss how the money would be spent.
Ged said: “We are extremely grateful for the generous donation made by Jenny, Wayne and members at Mere Golf Club.
“It is great news to hear Wayne has been given the ‘all clear’.
“The money will make a significant difference and ensure we continue to provide the very best care and treatment to our patients.”
