A FIRST class school is celebrating after reaching the top one per cent in the country.

Pupils at Lower Peover CofE Primary School demonstrated their outstanding ability in recent Key Stage 2 assessments.

In a letter, Minister of Schools Damian Hinds, wrote to head teacher Sharon Dean to congratulate pupils and teachers.

Mr Hinds said: “Your school’s results show that 93 per cent of your pupils reached or exceeded the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics a the end of Key Stage 2.

“This means that Lower Peover CofE Primary School is in the top 1 per cent of primary schools in the country.

“The government wants to ensure that every child has the fluency in reading, writing and mathematics necessary to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, which is why I was delighted to see your results.

“Thank you for your work in continuing the drive towards higher academic standards and congratulations to you and your staff on your commitment and success.”

Proud parents have echoed the minister’s comments, praising staff and describing the achievement as ‘awesome’.

One mum said: “Fabulous school. Very blessed for my son to go here. Thank you for all you do.”

Another mum added: “Amazing school and proud of the cohort of 2023. Going on to amazing things from a fabulous foundation.”

Head teacher Sharon Dean said: “We were delighted to receive the letter from the Minister of Schools, Damian Hinds, acknowledging the very high standard of achievement from our Year 6 pupils last year.

“To be recognised as being in the top 1 per cent in the country, for reading, writing and maths assessments is testament to our fantastic team at Lower Peover and all their hard work.

“We would like to express our thanks to the parents who supported the children’s journey during their time at Lower Peover CofE Primary School.

“The children all worked incredibly hard to obtain these results, especially having to catch up for the lost learning during the lockdown period.

“We are very proud of them all.”
