A CAR fire has caused lenghty delays on the motorway.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to J18 of the M6 this morning following reports of a fire.
Three fire engines, one each from Lymm, Winsford, and Knutsford, were sent to the scene shortly before 8am.
Upon arrival, crews found a car "well alight" on the slip road on the southbound carriageway.
The fire engines were used to keep traffic away from the incident as firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to put out the flames.
A thermal imaging camera was then used to monitor the vehicle for sources of heat.
One lane remains closed as a result of the fire and the exit slip road is still partially blocked.
This has lead to long delays and queing traffic.
