A DRIVER who got behind the wheel while more than twice the legal drug limit has been banned from the roads.

Sam Watterson, of Maple Road, Alderley Edge, admitted drug driving when he appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court on November 15.

The 25-year-old was driving a Seat Ibiza on the M56 in Warrington on May 8, this year, when he was stopped by the police.

A subsequent blood test recorded 4.7ug/L of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, an ingredient of cannabis, in his system.

The legal limit for this breakdown product is 2ug/L.

Watterson was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Disqualification is obligatory for drug driving offences, the court heard.

The defendant was also fined £230 and ordered to pay £120 costs and £92 victim surcharge.

Magistrates took his guilty plea into consideration when imposing the sentence.

The £442 court penalty is due to be paid in full by December 13.
