DRIVERS are being warned of 'significant delays' on the M6 as two lanes remain closed following the discovery of an ‘infrastructure defect’.
Two lanes on the northbound carriageway are closed between junction 18, for Middlewich and 19, for Knutsford.
The problem was found during planned overnight work last night, Wednesday.
The entry slip road at junction 18 remains closed.
A National Highways spokesman said: “A specialist engineer has carried out an inspection on land subsidence along the embankment, and repairs will be taking place.
“A large temporary barrier is also being installed for the protection of HGVs while work is completed.
“Significant delays are expected and road users are advised to plan their journeys and if possible avoid the area at peak times.”
