A FORMER Warrington councillor has been chosen by Labour as its candidate for Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner.
representatives have selected former Great Sankey North councillor Dan Price as a contender for the role currently held by Conservative John Dwyer.
Labour refer to the issue of a sense of security that has ‘slowly eroded over the past 13 years’, claiming levels of violent crime remain high and confidence that there will be any consequences when a crime is committed, has fallen.
Labour’s candidate for Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Dan Price said: “Under the Conservatives, our town centres are being hit by growing levels of anti-social behaviour, with people smashing shop windows, graffitiing public spaces and trashing our high streets, yet nothing is done.
“Neighbourhood policing has been decimated under the Conservatives and as a result criminals are getting away scot-free while communities are being let down.”
"The next Labour government has a plan to make Britain’s streets safe again, by halving serious violent crime and raising confidence in the Police and Criminal Justice System to its highest levels.
“Our plan will put 13,000 police and PCSOs in neighbourhood roles across the Country because everyone deserves to feel safe.”
A Labour spokesperson spoke of the former Warrington councillor as an ‘outstanding’ choice for the important role.
They said: “Dan has lived in Warrington all of his life and still lives and works in Cheshire. He is acutely aware of the issues facing local residents and businesses. Dan is best placed to make Cheshire’s streets safe and increase the number of Police Officers across the county.”
Cllr Price resigned from the Labour party four years ago accusing then leader Jeremy Corbyn of a ‘Brexit betrayal’.
He is a former executive member for culture on Warrington Borough Council.
