THREE councillors have been elected to Knutsford Town Council after voters in only one ward, Cross Town, went to the polls on Thursday.

Peter Coan (Con) received 393 votes, Lesley Dalzell (Ind) gained 473 votes and Rex Mears (Ind) recorded 484 votes.

Conservative candidate Tim Regan failed to be elected after receiving the lowest number of votes, 340.

The new make up of the council is as follows after 12 other candidates were elected unopposed.

Bexton and Town Centre ward

Stewart Gardiner (Con), April Johnson and Gus Watson (both Ind).

Nether ward

Brian Hartley, Scott Lowe and Matthew (all Ind).

Norbury Booths ward

Christopher Gray and Matthew Robertson (both Con) and Su Russell (Ind).

St John’s Wood ward

Colin Banks (Ind), Jennifer Forrest (Con) and James McCulloch (no party).

All the current members remain in place until today, Tuesday, when all existing councillors retire and the new councillors come into office.

Seven of the current town councillors, half those currently standing, did not seek a further term.
