KNUTSFORD’S deputy mayor has stepped down from the council.
Cllr Jan Nicolson has served Knutsford Town Council for 20 years and was looking forward to serving as mayor for the third time this year.
First elected in 2003, she was re-elected as a councillor four times and latterly represented residents of Norbury Booths.

Jan was nominated by her fellow councillors as mayor in 2007 and in 2016.
After being elected deputy mayor in 2022, she had planned to be put forward as mayor again in May 2023.
Mayor Cllr Mike Houghton said, “It is with great sadness that I have accepted the resignation of deputy mayor Cllr Jan Nicholson.
“I know Jan was hoping to take on a third term as town mayor this year.
“During her time as a councillor, Jan demonstrated an unparalleled degree of public service to the town.
“She will be widely missed. I wish Jan well for the future in her recovery and look forward to continuing our friendship that has developed since I first joined the council in 2011."
Due to the forthcoming elections in May, there will be no opportunity to trigger a by-election.
All seats on the town council are up for re-election in May.
Two information sessions for potential councillors to find out more about what is involved are being held.
Prospective candidates are invited to learn meet current serving councillors and find out more about the role at meetings this evening, Thursday, February 16, and Monday, February 20, at 7pm in the council offices.
