AN investigation is underway to find out why a sinkhole has reappeared in Knutsford.
The pavement has collapsed again in Toft Road between Curzon cinema and the railway station.
This footpath was cordoned off for many months last year as various statutory bodies and specialist contractors strived to identify the cause of the subsidence.
Experts say there is an underground tunnel beneath Toft Road, linking the station to the old court house.
The problem was eventually rectified when another sinkhole re-emerged again last week.

A spokesman for Cheshire East Council said: “We are aware of a new depression which has formed in the footway in Toft Road, Knutsford, close to where a similar defect was recently repaired.
“The footpath has been closed for safety reasons with a pedestrian diversion in place.
“We are looking to put temporary measures in place which will enable the footpath to remain open whilst further investigations are carried out.
