A SINKHOLE that closed a busy footpath in Knutsford for many months last year may have reappeared.
Knutsford Town Council is warning residents of the danger of the collapsed pavement on Toft Road near the Curzon and railway station.
They say the water ‘looks like a puddle but it is not’.
Town council clerk Adam Keppel-Green said: “The town council is concerned to see that the works undertaken after months of delay last year have failed.
“We have spoken with Cheshire East Highways who are arranging for an inspection with the contractor who undertook the works today and we await their explanation and solution.
“We will continue to impress upon Cheshire East Council the importance of fixing this pavement swiftly and understanding why the works last year failed.”
The collapsed pavement was closed for many months last year.
A spokesman for United Utilities said: “We did repair a minor defect in a sewer in February, March last year.
“It was not the cause of the subsidence.
“There is an underground tunnel there. Cheshire East Council took responsibility for this and we handed it back to them to repair."
The Guardian has asked Cheshire East Council for a comment.
