A FREE Christmas Day lunch is once again being served to people who would otherwise be on their own.

Knutsford Lions Club will also include anyone suffering financial hardship to share the three course home cooked meal.

To continue their annual festive gesture, the charity is urging the local community to support their Christmas appeal.

This week, Lions are inviting people to hand in donations in envelopes that have been distributed to homes across the town.

Lions will be collecting in Princess Street from 10.30am to 3pm on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10.

Lion member Peter Wilgoose, who has organized the house to house collections for many years, said: “We are dependant on the generosity of local people and visitors to the town at this time to enable us to do all the things that we do throughout the year.

“The Christmas Day lunch is something really special, but we also provide assistance to lots of people in need at different times, all of which needs to be funded.

“Our grateful thanks go to everyone who donates and to all our helpers.”

The festive meal will include soup, a traditional turkey dinner and Christmas pudding.

A visit from Father Christmas and carol singing will create a joyful atmosphere.

Sealed envelopes can be handed to any Lion member or they can be dropped off at Jonty’s fruit and veg stall in the market or at Knutsford Olde Sweet Shoppe on King Street.

Alternatively wellwishers can hand over their envelopes during the Lions street collections in Princess Street.

There are special arrangements for those wishing to donate, as nobody will call to collect unless invited to do so.
