JACK Cottam produced a kicking masterclass as Holmes Chapel beat Crewe and Nantwich 41-10 on Saturday, writes Rich Wilcock.
In a tight first half between two of the league’s mid-table teams, Crewe and Nantwich bundled over after some consistent pressure from their forwards but Cottam converted two penalties in reply.
A well-worked play caught the Holmes Chapel defence out, leaving space on the left wing for the visitors’ second try.
Tom Chambers’ try ensured that Holmes Chapel went into half time ahead 11-10 though.
The second half saw Holmes Chapel firmly in control, with centres Gaz Jackman and Hayden Tunney finding gaps with some piercing runs. Tunney took advantage as he powered over with a 30-yard run.
Liam Gavin went over to make it 27-10, with Cottam continuing his 100 percent kicking record.
As Crewe and Nantwich started tiring, Holmes Chapel stretched the play. Scrum-half Luke Shaw threaded through a kick which was finished off by Tom Nelson. Tunney collected the final try with Cottam again converting.
