A MUCH-LOVED story made famous by Michael Caine and Julie Walters is making a comeback.

'Educating Rita', a 1983 British comedy drama, features the relationship between a 26-year-old Liverpudlian working class hairdresser and a middle-aged lecturer during the course of one year.

Willy Russell’s classic play is being performed at Knutsford Little Theatre from Wednesday, September 14 to Saturday, September 17.

Paul Baston and Cheryl Chamberlain play Frank and Rita in the drama, set in office of an Open University tutor.

Director Rachel Perrin said: “It has been so lovely to direct two people who are so passionate about their roles and have worked hard for the last four weeks.

“I couldn’t be more proud of them.

“I can guarantee audiences that they will laugh and cry along with Rita and Frank as we go on Rita’s journey to complete her learning of everything.”

The theatre in Queen Street, a few minutes from the town centre, was formed in 1925.
